Source: GM jobs announcement coming this week 9/11/10

By Richard Conn; The Daily Herald ~ Sep 11, 2010

An announcement that jobs are coming to General Motors mostly-idled Spring Hill manufacturing plant could be made as early as Friday, a source with knowledge of GM’s plans said.

The source, who wished to remain anonymous, was not sure how many jobs would be added, but he said at the least a new engine would be built at the facility.

Contacted Saturday, Mike Herron, bargaining chairman for the UAW Local 1853, declined to comment on whether an announcement was planned for this week.

Herron would only say that local union officials remain hopeful that many of the plant's laid-off members will soon be back to work.

“The local union has been working extraordinarily hard to secure new work for this location, and we will continue to do that into the future,” Herron said. “We believe that we have one of the best General Motors plants in the country, and we’ve continued to say that this one of the most technologically advanced plants and has one of the best workforces in the industry.”
