GMRA Statement: Health Care Reform Bill
We have had questions from GMRA members concerning the potential impact of the Health Care Bill on retiree benefits. It is our understanding that the Health Care Reform Bill includes a provision that would reduce premiums and/or deductibles for retirees between the ages of 55 and 65. The specific details of implementation of these provisions are not completed yet, but will be soon. We will keep GMRA members informed of developments and will post specifics when they are available.
GMRA monitors all legislation and developments that could potentially affect GM retiree benefits. We are working closely with the NRLN (National Retiree Legislative Network) to interpret the final legislation in terms of the effect it will have on retiree benefits, both short- and long-term. We will also open dialogue with GM concerning the potential for change to retiree benefits, seeking to ensure fair treatment for GM retirees in such considerations.
