Obama installs PBGC nominee over Delphi retiree objections 7/6/10

Washington -- The White House confirmed late Tuesday President Barack Obama would bypass the Senate and install his choice to head the government's pension insurer.

In May, Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, blocked the the nomination of Joshua Gotbaum to serve as director of the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corp. because he objects to how Delphi Corp.'s salaried retirees have been treated with the company's termination of its pension plans last year.
The decision to install Gotbaum is a big setback to Delphi's more than 15,000 salaried retirees -- thousands of whom live in Michigan -- who hoped pressure from Congress would force the administration to take action to stem their pension losses.
